La Foce, Tuscany, Italy

From Siena we travelled by two taxi vans to La Foce, a garden in Tuscany.  It was designed by Cicil Pinsent and created between 1924 - 39.  It is owned by American-born Iris Origo and her husband.  The villa was founded in 1498 as a hospice for pilgrims, the Hospital Santa Maria della Scala.  Formal layout in a late Renaissance style.

There are wonderful views out over the surrounding landscape but unfortunately it rained the whole time we were here.

Timed it right for the wisteria.

A classic Tuscan scene, with the pencil cypress lining a switchback road up the hill.
