Kowhai flowers and seed pods

We have two kowhai trees in our garden and neither are flowering yet, so I was surprised to find a tree smothered in flowers in Nelson today.  This one must be an early flowering variety, as I did see other trees here with no flowers as yet.

I particularly like the contrast between last year's seed pods (which remind me of a beaded curtain) and this year's flowers.
