Kaka, Zealandia, Wellington

The kaka is an endangered species, so I amazed to learn that there are approximately 500 that live in or close to Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellington.  Feeding stations have food for them to try and keep them in the area so they have a greater chance of survival.  We were lucky to arrive at the feeding station just after it was replenished for the day.  They are most active at dusk and dawn but a few hungry ones did come down for a snack.

I just love that colourful undercarriage.
