We got a lift to the top of Mt Pisa, (1,900 metres) and then set off to walk back to our car at a farm in Luggate. What we thought might take us 3 hours actually took us 7 hours, and it was an absolute miracle that we came out at our car. This was quite an adventure, and I'm looking forward to a rest day tomorrow!. It was beautiful scenery though, with lots of alpine plants, and we even saw a pair of oystercatchers (shore birds) right up at the top.

| Mt Pisa summit. I had on shorts and t-shirt, plus woolen hat, gloves, scarf, and windbreaker. It was 27 deg when we got back to the car. |

| That's Mt Aspiring in the distance, and the foreground is a mixture of tussock and alpine plants. |

Civilization is tantalisingly close, but from here we back-tracked and it was an hour and a half later that we arrived back at the car.
