Newberry Volcanic National Monument, Bend, Oregon

The Newberry Volcanic area is fairly recent by geological standards, with the last eruption being approximately 1,300 years ago.  There is a large area of obsidian, (volcanic glass) which had a few trees which had found a water-source and a pocket of soil to grow in.
