Craters of the Moon National Monument, Idaho

Wildflower with a black volcanic rock background

Everything has got all out of order on this post.  The text was supposed to be first, then the landscape photo, then the chipmunk, and lastly the wildflowers.  Oh well, can't win 'em all.

This tiny wildflower is called a buckwheat
The Craters of the Moon National Monument is a large volcanic area formed 2,000 years ago.  (Very old by New Zealand standards).  It contains excellent examples of several geographical features including lava tube caves.  We had a cold, grey day but we dodged the heavy showers.
This little chipmunk was well camouflaged on the volcanic rock.
