Tofino is a remote small town on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Yes, it has sandy beaches and surf, but it also has a maze of inner passages and islands. We did a bear watching trip on a boat to see black bears crabbing at low tide. No salmon here at the moment so they make do with crabs, roots, berries and vegetation.

One of the docks in town. Note float plane at the end. |

Black bear hunting for crabs. They turned over big rocks with one paw as easily as flipping pancakes! |

Just before we docked. A community dependent on water transport. |
