Mt Whitney, Sierra Nevadas, California

Mt Whitney, at 14,505 ft, is the highest mountain in the continental U.S. (excluding the states of Alaska and Hawaii).  It is best seen from the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada range.

As seen through an arch in the Alabama Hills.

We knew the Whitney Portal road was usually closed this time of year, but thought we would drive up as far as possible.
It wasn't the snow that prevented us from going any further.
