Currie, Edinburgh

The town of Currie lies 7 miles south-west of Edinburgh, and in 2001 had a population of 8,500.  It is more like an outer suburb of Edinburgh today.

Some history.
A Christian community is known to have lived in the area for over 1,000 years.  There are records from 1309 which states that Currie was a favourite hunting grounds of the Lords and Knights of Edinburgh Castle.
The earliest record of education in Currie date back to 1598.

Currie Kirk (church) was built in 1784, but the graveyard predates this, so it is presumed it was built on the site of an earlier one.

We never did find the Baptist Church.

We spent some time browsing in here, which was very interesting and also got us out of the rain.

A famous Currie resident.
