Kootenay National Park, British Columbia

Wildfires are raging throughout western north America this summer, but this is not a new event.
These trees in Kootenay National Park were burnt in the wildfire of 2003, but recovery is slow in a climate with a growing season of only four or five months a year.  Although it was drizzle raining at the time and the skeletons of the dead trees made it seem a little spooky, the bright green growth of the new trees underneath were very much evidence of the new life growing from the ashes.
