Billabong Wildlife Sanctuary, Townsville, Queensland

I'd much prefer to photograph wild animals, but the only way we were able to see a cassowary was to visit an animal sanctuary.

The cassowary is the third largest bird in the world, and is unusual in that it is the male that takes care of the young.  (I really wish this photo didn't have the wire fence.)

Feeding time for koalas meant they were active.

I'm not sure what kind of turtle this is, but it was certainly interested in me and my camera.
