Rock Peak, Crown Range, Queenstown

The Crown Range road, the "quick way" between Queenstown and Wanaka, used to be narrow, gravel and only for the intrepid traveller.  I can remember a radiator hose on my Mini chose this road on which to split/leak/perish, which was highly inconvenient.  Anyway, today it is sealed and considerably wider, but it does have several tight hairpin bends.  At the highest point there is a lookout, and this is also the starting point of several walks.  We chose the shortest, Rock Peak, and didn't see anyone else on our walk, which was 2 hours return or thereabouts.

That's an Air New Zealand plane on it's approach to Queenstown airport.  It was a fairly thick blanket of cloud it had to pass through, but clear underneath.  The cloud all disapated while we were on our walk.

Rock Peak.  Another instance of feeling "on top of the world" and a great spot for morning tea.
