Malheur Wildlife Refuge, Oregon

I had a mental picture of Oregon of being wall-to-wall pine trees.  And it is, except where it is farmed or a wildlife refuge, and in this case, a swamp.  We had missed the massed migrations of birds however, and saw very little at all.

And then driving out we saw the pelicans.

Yes, it is big!  And I suddenly realised that if it chose that moment to "lighten it's load" I would be the target!  I clicked the shutter then stepped sideways pretty smartly.
