Eco Retreat, Karijini National Park

Our permanent tent had a wooden floor, lovely comfortable queen size bed, electric light, an ensuite bathroom area and zipped fly screens to let in the air and keep our all the bugs (flies, mozzies etc).

Just after dinner on our second night there was a thunderstorm which lasted about three hours, with 50mm of rain, continual lightning and crashing thunder, and gale force winds.  The wet season had begun.  We discovered that the fly covering the tent (there is another roof underneath the one you can see in the photo), is in actual fact shade cloth, and is not waterproof.  The bathroom at the back is open to the air, with only the shade cloth covering it.  All the dust on the shadecloth came through and into the bathroom, turning our white basin area red!
