Thurso to Durness, Scotland's Northern Coast

We have finally left behind the major tourist route north, and headed west.  The roads are noticeably different, with lots of one lane stretches with passing bays.  (A bit disconcerting when you meet a tour bus, earth moving machinery, or the occasional Bruce McClaren clone.)  Also hard to concentrate on the road with stunning scenery.

Loch Eriboll (not a lake, more an inlet from the sea)

The beach at Durness where we are staying.  I can hardly stand up the wind is so strong, and loud thunderclaps forced us to beat a hasty retreat back to the car.  Just in time as the rain came down hard, sideways.

The rain didn't last long.  This was taken through the window of our B&B.
