Tree Trunk Gorge, Kaimanawa Forest Park

Tree Trunk Gorge (great name!) taken from the bridge on Tree Trunk Gorge Road.  And I believe that is the Tongariro River down there at the bottom.  It was raining when I took this, so I was multi-tasking - protecting my camera from the wet, leaning over the bridge railing trying to compose my photo, and keeping a watchful eye out for vehicles coming.   What is deceptive here is how high I am above the land, and how high the sides of the gorge are.  There is no way I would want to fall in there.
