The Mighty Totara

Growing to 30 metres, the New Zealand totara is one of our great forest trees.  Considered a symbol of strength, Maori used the timber for canoe building and carving.  This tree was a few minutes walk from where we stayed in Taihape.  I love the colours of the lichen growing on the bark.
