Catholic church, Ile des Pins, New Caledonia

The main village on Ile des Pins is Vao, where this  Catholic church is prominant.  It was established by the Marist priest Father Goujon, who managed to convert most of the island's population in the 30 years following his arrival in 1848.  Higher up the hill is a small chapel with a path connecting the two.  For a small island with a small permanent population this is a huge church.
