Tortuguero, Costa Rica

The eyelash pit viper is a small but venomous tree living snake.  This one was in a tree by the National Park office when we went to buy our tickets.  It was gone later in the day.  They can be a variety of colours.
A breadfruit growing in the garden of our hotel.

The veranda of our hotel (Miss Junie's) which had the river on one side, and the beach on the other.

During a brief pause in the rain we walked the 25 metres out the back of the hotel to the beach.  This is where turtles come to lay their eggs in season. (Not January.)  Apart from the rough surf, swimming is not an option due to the presence of bull sharks who I believe enjoy baby turtles as part of their diet.  Needless to say, I didn't swim here!
Yes, that is more rain on it's way, and  we had to beat a hasty retreat back to shelter.  The cafe does a delicious hot chocolate.
