Homer impressions

It rained most of the 220 kilometers between Seward and Homer, so we were thrilled when it cleared up just as we drove into town.  Some first impressions.

Russian Orthodox Church (old) - We are very close to Russia here and in fact Alaska used to be owned by Russia until it was purchased by the U.S in 1867.

This old gentleman outside a cafe looked decidedly Russian to me.  (He is fiddling with something inside his hat.)

Homer is on the shores of Kachemak Bay.

Bald eagles hang out down by the boat harbour waiting for fish to be cleaned.

Flowers are everywhere, either as wild flowers, or like this planter outside a shop.
