Cave Creek, Paparoa National Park, Westland

On 28 April 1995, 14 people lost their lives when a platform collapsed, sending 18 people plunging 30 metres down to this river bed.  4 people survived, though sustained serious injury.  When we visited a few weeks ago, there was no water in the stream bed.  The platform, which does not exist now, would have been almost directly overhead.  I found this a sobering place, but the natural bush is stunning and a great place for reflection.
